About Me

Van Brown attended E.S. Miller Vocational School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Van majored in food service and building maintenance and graduated in 1983. Although he majored in food service and building maintenance, his life took a very different path. In the 1970’s he started working for the Bulletin Newspaper making home deliveries. In 1979 he was hired by the Philadelphia Daily News as a street corner sales representative.
Van continued to hold on to his dream of working as a radio broadcaster. From the young age of 10, this became his passion. With determination, his dream came true. He felt called to go into gospel radio. Friday night roller skating was an exciting place to be, especially circling the rink to the gospel tunes Van was playing. Additionally, Marlene Ings became his first mentor and gave him an opportunity to play gospel music on her show at WIBF, now Praise 103.9 FM.

This was his first introduction into radio. Blessings continued to flow in Van’s direction and Minister Walter Stewart made Van aware of an opening at WURD Love 900 AM. Van could not believe his good fortune. He applied and was hired as a gospel radio personality. He will never forget his start date – May 2, 1992. Van remained at WURD, where he grew and became a seasoned radio personality. He continued to enjoy this position until 1996 when the station was sold.

Van continued to maintain his determination, which led him to Deacon Titus Wright. Deacon Wright approached Van with the opportunity of working with him on Gospel Express at WNJC 1360 AM. His gift for making great gospel music selections kept Van at WNJC until 1998.
Diane Brown, better known as “Lady Di”, recognized Van’s gift for gospel. Lady Di brought him onboard with her at WHAT 1340 AM on Sunday mornings from 12 am-6 am. His community radio work includes WPEB 88.1 FM, a local West Philadelphia based station, where his music could be heard on Sunday mornings from 9:30 am-10:30 am.

Van Brown’s humble beginnings delivering and selling newspapers in Philadelphia turned into something much greater. His faith kept his dream of radio alive and expanded to the music ministry of Bishop R.T. Jones, Sr.’s Christian Tabernacle Church of God and Christ where he served as assistant audio engineer in charge of recording all church services. Bishop Jones shared a spiritual word with Van that “your gift will be used to the glory of God beyond your position with our church”.
Van is currently a member of Deliverance Evangelistic Church where he supports various ministries and is in training to work with the audio-video department. His 16 plus years of experience has given him a varied radio background that he brings to his current position as radio personality at www.fmhdmsradio.net, a 7 day/week, 24 hour/day internet station. Not only can you hear the gospel of Van Brown, but FM HDMS offers its listeners a variety of music and talk shows that appeals to all ages and music lovers.
